THE TEAM

As part of TCEQ's Office of Water, you contribute to ensuring clean and available water and protecting Texas' water resources.

This position is a member of our Water Quality Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing...

• Provide highly advanced assessments of water quality issues and provide guidance and recommendations for permits for the Water Quality Division (WQD) of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
• Review permit applications and compile, analyze and interpret highly advanced data to assess potential impacts to groundwater quality and determine possible contamination sources. Prepare evaluations in accordance with federal and state rules, regulations, and TCEQ policies and guidelines. Develop recommendation memos. Ensure all updates are accurately made to the appropriate tracking databases within a timely manner.
• Review Notices of Intent (NOIs) for the CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) General Permit to assess possible impacts to groundwater quality. Prepare written documentation in accordance with federal and state rules, regulations, and policies and guidelines. Ensure all updates are accurately made to the groundwater tracking databases within a timely manner. Review and respond to CAFO Well Buffer Exception requests in accordance with TCEQ rules and Division policies.
• Respond to comments on draft permits. Review draft permits and other documents as needed. Attend Commission Agenda, hearings and public meetings and meetings with permittees.
• Communicate highly advanced information and respond to inquiries regarding the groundwater protection program to other government agencies, the regulated community, agency staff, and the general public. Oversee, coordinate and conduct hydrologic investigations, site investigation, studies and special projects. Assist the team leader in providing direction, leadership, and mentoring for the staff of the groundwater protection program.
  
  

Education & Experience

• Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus five years of full-time geological experience beyond licensure.
  
  

OR

• Ten years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).
  
  

A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.
