About the Role
The role offers a unique opportunity for someone passionate about North Carolina seeking to pursue a fast-paced career in communications. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing & Research, you'll oversee a variety of communication channels-public relations, social media, newsletters, and more. You'll work hand-in-hand with internal teams and external partners to promote EDPNC's mission of attracting businesses and talent to North Carolina while supporting the expansion of those already here.
This role isn't just about crafting messages; it's about strategizing, leading, and creating impact. You'll work closely with leaders at the NC Department of Commerce, the Office of the Governor, and other stakeholders to ensure that our messaging is unified, clear, and resonates.
Requirements
What This Role brings to EDPNC :
- Lead Messaging : Develop and refine messaging for EDPNC that promotes North Carolina as a top destination for business and talent. You'll work with various internal and external teams to ensure all communications are aligned with the EDPNC's goals and marketing strategy.
- Stakeholder Communication : Serve as the liaison between EDPNC, the NC Department of Commerce, and the Office of the Governor, ensuring consistent and timely messaging.
- Media Relations and PR : Identify and seize media opportunities to boost EDPNC's visibility. Pitch story ideas, secure press coverage, and represent EDPNC in the media.
- Content Creation : From press releases and case studies to web copy and newsletters, you'll be responsible for crafting compelling written content that speaks to diverse audiences.
- Social Media Management : Own EDPNC's social media strategy-create, schedule, and amplify content to engage with stakeholders and showcase the state's economic strengths
- Event and Executive Support : Collaborate with executive leadership; our CEO and Board of Directors on communications for key initiatives, speeches, and industry events.
Experience & Education :
o Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field
o Minimum 5 years of corporate communications or public relations experience ( economic development experience is a plus! )
o Hands-on experience with WordPress, Cision, and social media platforms
Key Skills :
o Superb written and verbal communication skills, including experience with public speaking
o High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment
o Strong problem-solving ability and a creative approach to tackling communication challenges
o A collaborative spirit, with the ability to work across multiple teams and stakeholders
o Customer-service-focused, with a proactive and solutions-oriented attitude
