General Overview
This position will support all Engineering Department projects by assisting in project management, processes, documentation for design, process, product, and material validations and qualifications. Responsibilities will include execution and management of Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&Rs) and Process Control Plans (PCPs) and participation in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DEFMEAs) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs). This position will also be responsible for operation, maintenance, construction, and requisition of automated/manual test fixtures as it pertains to specific projects as well as execution and report outs of test requests from the Engineering Department. This is a senior level technical role combined with a high degree of project management and will be expected to act as a mentor and direct three Associate Test Engineers. The employee will be expected to operate remotely and independently with moderate guidance from peers and management at the Eagan HQ.
Overall Responsibilities
· Test fixture specification, design, build, automation, repair, maintenance, and improvement
· Implement and maintain a calibration schedule for lab equipment
· Implement and maintain a lab safety, cleaning, and maintenance schedule (5S)
· Manage several projects at once (builds, high-priority experiments, high-priority project test plans, etc.)
· Design, improve, and execute tests to qualify new and existing components for product improvement, cost reduction, and/or regulatory compliance
· SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) development and improvement
· Data management and analysis (script and non-script based)
· Report results in concise written forms (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
· Identify components to maintain equipment and ensure adequate component stock
· DVP&R/PCP development and execution based on DFMEA/PFMEA exercises with emphasis on Repeatability and Reliability statistics analysis
· Act as a mentor/technical expert to the team
· Ensure a high level of communication with the Test & Sustaining Quality Manager, Test & Sustaining Quality Lab Manager, and all other stakeholders in the Engineering department
· Critical, independent thinking around product requirements and validation
· General lab safety, cleaning, and maintenance (5S)
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies
Minimum:
B.S. in Engineering or related field – chemical, mechanical, or controls engineering with background in mechanical or chemical engineering
8+ years of experience in product testing and test lab operations
Knowledge of construction of test fixtures for mechanical, fluid dynamics, and chemical evaluations
Experience in a test lab environment (data collection, analysis, reports)
Experienced with using hand tools and tool fixtures, especially pertaining to evaluation of fluid dynamics
Knowledge of when to escalate problems or issues; able to communicate results effectively
Effective communicator with strong documentation skills, able to report results in concise written forms
Able to inspire others and share passion for our vision, culture, and opportunity
Demonstrates strategic thinking, operational intelligence, and sound judgment
Data-driven with a balance between data and intuition; strong documentation skills
Proficiency in the following or similar software applications: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Desired:
Previous experience directing junior engineers or lab technicians
High mechanical aptitude
Test stand automation (PLC, Pneumatics, LabView)
Understanding of data acquisition (DAQ) technology and methods
Ability to document fixture designs using MS Visio and/or Solidworks Routing
Ability to use and code in MatLab or MatLab-equivalent software for complex, customized data analysis (script generation in MatLab, Python, R, or equivalent) with emphasis on R&R statistics
Self-starter capable of managing several projects at once (project management)
Knowledge of water chemistry and water treatment.
Understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, and R&R statistics driven experimentation
