Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.
As a Laboratory Assistant you will :
Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and chain-of-custody drug collections. Perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.
Minimum Requirements
High School, Equivalent (GED), or higher
Preferred :
Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended
6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting
Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency
National Healthcare Association (NHA)
Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb)
American Society of Clinical Pathologists- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)]
International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS)
National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)
American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS)
American Medical Technologists (AMT) or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership
Other Information
40 hours a week
Monday - Friday (11 am - 7 : 30 pm)
Required to work a weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend
Required to work rotational holidays
Shift / Hours may be adjusted according to staffing and / or workload demands
