ECU Health and the Brody School of Medicine share a combined academic mission to improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina through patient care, education and research.Position SummaryECU Health is seeking an attorney with exceptional legal qualifications and a commitment to our mission to improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina to join our in-house legal department as Associate General Counsel. The successful candidate must possess strong analytical ability and oral and written communications skills; be willing to collaborate with others; exercise sound judgement and apply a practical approach to solving a wide range of legal and policy issues. Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability and be able to self-direct.The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance on a broad range of matters, which may include : Handling complex legal matters and preparing or reviewing legal documents and policies, as well as providing counsel and advice on legal issues affecting health systems operations.Providing legal advice regarding compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.Assisting in providing general advice on corporate governance issues and corporate organizational issues, including corporate bylaws and articles of incorporation.Drafting and reviewing various contracts relating to operations to ensure that contracts comply with state and federal laws.Maintaining awareness of laws and regulations and staying current with changes, developments, and practices that may affect health care systems.Preparing and presenting education and training on a myriad of topics to promote regulatory awareness among management and executive leadership.Coordinating activities and collaborating with other members of the Legal Department, fostering a positive, team-oriented working environment.Providing advice and counsel on matters relating to labor and employment law, including compensation and benefits, EEO, FMLA, ADA, DOL and state-specific regulations.Assisting with internal investigations, responses to investigations and inquiries from external regulatory and / or accreditation agencies, such as OSHA, DHHS, DOL, EEO, and the Joint Commission, advising on subpoenas, handling workers compensation claims and administrative hearings, and consulting with outside counsel on litigation matters.Minimum RequirementsJuris Doctorate is required.3 - 4 years experience is required.Other Information36 hours a weekMonday - Friday (8 am - 5 pm)Hybrid : Will be required to work 25% to 45% on-siteRequired to work On-CallGreat BenefitsGeneral StatementIt is the goal of ECU Health and its entities to employ the most qualified individual who best matches the requirements for the vacant position.Offers of employment are subject to successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, which may include an occupational health screening, criminal record check, education, reference, and licensure verification.We value diversity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
