Position Overview:The Director of Youth Development is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing prevention-focused programming for both in-school and after-school experiences. This role emphasizes proactive strategies to address key challenges faced by teens, including mental health, substance use prevention, healthy decision-making, and personal growth.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, forward-thinking leader with expertise in adolescent development and prevention programming, capable of creating engaging, evidence-based initiatives that make a measurable impact on teens' lives.

Salaried: 30 hrs during the school year, reduced hours in summer months.

Key Responsibilities:

Prevention Programming:

  • Develop and implement evidence-based prevention programs focused on mental health, substance use prevention, and social-emotional learning for in-school and after-school settings.
  • Collaborate with local schools to integrate in-school workshops, presentations, and curriculum-based prevention education.
  • Ensure all programs align with best practices in prevention and address the diverse needs of high school students.

Program Development and Management:

  • Oversee after-school programs that complement prevention efforts and promote personal growth, life skills, and community engagement.
  • Monitor program effectiveness through data collection and evaluation, using findings to continuously improve offerings.

Community and School Partnerships:

  • Build relationships with school administrators, counselors, and teachers to align programs with school needs and priorities.
  • Partner with community organizations, healthcare providers, and prevention coalitions to enhance resources and expand program reach.

Leadership and Staff Development:

  • Train and collaborate with program staff and volunteers in prevention-focused curriculum and youth engagement strategies.
  • Provide reports and insights from their own ongoing professional development to staff on relevant topics such as mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and risk prevention.

Advocacy and Awareness:

  • Represent EDGE Teen Center in community forums, panels, and coalitions to advocate for teen prevention and well-being.
  • Lead awareness campaigns targeting teens, parents, and the broader community about the importance of prevention and healthy choices.

Resource Management:

  • Manage program budgets to ensure cost-effective delivery of prevention programming.
  • Identify and secure funding through grants, sponsorships, and donations to support prevention initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Education, or a related field
  • Experience in youth development, prevention programming, or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based prevention strategies and adolescent development.
  • Experience building partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in program management tools and Google Suite.
