The Senior Accountant role will be an addition to the Edgewater Financial Group team and the Black Onyx Management Company, reporting to the Director of Accounting and Finance. This dual-focused position offers a distinctive opportunity to impact both our internal financial health and our clients' success, making it a pivotal role within our organization.
The Senior Accountant role combines traditional accounting and finance compliance with a partnership approach with clients. This role will support our internal accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning, but you will also directly contribute to client success. This role includes specialized work and issuing deliverables for our clients, providing them with exceptional financial expertise and support.
This position requires a professional with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, financial compliance, and maintaining client relations. An unwavering commitment to equity and social justice is imperative.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, reports, and budget forecasts.
- Assist with the implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal guidelines.
- Execute on required client deliverables, including, but not limited to: Recording and tracking of operational transactions; Preparation of annual budgets, liquidity forecasts, variance analyses, and financial performance evaluations; Timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting; and Operational and financial management consultations.
- Collaborate with Non-Profit clients on grant submissions, budgeting, and data gathering
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in accounting and finance.
- Assist with basic tax compliance responsibilities during peak times
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (Minimum 2-3 years); OR associate’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles; and a demonstrated proficiency in financial management and reporting.
- Knowledge of GAAP principles, financial analysis techniques, and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).

- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and draw meaningful insights.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and work with grassroots organizations in implementing new strategies as they come.
- Ability to multi-task and shift priorities according to internal and client-related demands.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality in financial operations.
- Public Accounting experience.
- CPA designation.
Location: Indianapolis/Remote (Hybrid)
Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 commensurate with experience and superior employee benefits provided by Black Onyx Management.
