Position Summary:
Responsible for servicing and detailing food & beverages programs for corporate and social groups in accordance with Edgewood Tahoe standards. Reporting to the Director of Catering Sales & Events, the Catering Sales Manager will oversee the sales of social groups, planning and detailing activities and events as assigned by the DOC. This position will exhibit excellence in cultivating the Edgewood Vision by executing both team member and guest engagement standards.
 

Essential Functions:

  • Representative of the Company, as the representative of the Company and hotel, professionally approach and communicate with current and prospective customers. Knowledgeable on market, positioning of hotel, amenities, and brand. Understand booking patterns, trends, high demand times, and events in the market. Convey a strong belief in the hotel and confidently discuss hotel features, services, and advantages.
 
  • Sales Development, research and understand demand generators, new business sources, the internet as a prospecting tool, community involvement and networking. Research competing hotels and identify sales strategies for local and non-local social events. Understand and use industry reports like Delphi Reports, etc. Develop effective sales strategies to counter the competition. Develop valuable business relationships that result in additional sales and new customers. Research each customer’s business, hospitality needs, identify who to talk to and how to get sales closed.  Assist with complicated negotiations, to provide bottom line revenue while maintain the integrity of the close.   Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts. Research and identify new business opportunities for the hotel including reaching out to event planners and staying abreast of local events. Represent the Company at trade association meetings to promote hotel.
 
 
  • Proactive and Creative up Sales, exercise creativity, discretion and independent judgment in determining how to assemble an event to suit each customer's taste. Give full attention to what customers are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate. Conduct site visits and prepare original, creative proposals tailored to address the needs of and to impress the customer. Develop solutions to any cost concerns and resolve any challenges or problems.   
 
  • Additional large corporate/ social sales leads will be handed over by the Director of Catering.
  • Propose ideas to improve provided services and event quality.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.
  • Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day.
  • Conduct pre- and post – event evaluations and report on outcomes to DOCC.
  • Use your knowledge of the hotel’s offerings and the competitive landscape to secure catering business that meets or exceeds sales and revenue goals.
  • Solicit, negotiate and book new and repeat clients using multiple channels, such as social media, outside calls, and telemarketing.
  • Outline all details of catering events in the form of BEO’s and other reports timely
information to hotel departments regarding set-up, purchasing, and scheduling needs.
  • Capture the client’s vision and effectively convey the specifications to appropriate departments, rapidly responding to inquiries, concerns, and issues, ensuring an exceptional client experience, and seeding future bookings.
  • Develop client’s menus, write contracts and letters, as well as organize all other arrangements as they relate
to social and corporate events.
  • Keep management informed of activities through regular reporting.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients while they are in the hotel to ensure total guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain accuracy of catering events information in Delphi FDC
  • Assist in building strong relations with other hotel departments, employees, and outside agencies and vendors.
  • Ensuring excellent guest service that exceeds expectations with a respect for quality and careful attention to service and details.
  • Prior to and throughout the event inspect set-ups for cleanliness, organization, and agreement with client and company standards; rectify any deficiencies.
  • Meet and greet clients, conduct property tours, and promote facilities and services. Answers client inquires.
  • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients.
  • Supervise and attend the overall set up and implementation of events and meetings.
  • Communicate with relevant departments to ensure proper servicing of accounts.
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly Catering/Sales reports.
 

Experience and Qualifications (Required):

  • Minimum two years of experience as a Sales manager or events planner, coordinator or organizer
  • Impressive portfolio of previously managed events (meetings, parties, corporate events)
  • BS Degree in Event Management or Hospitality or Food and Beverage Management or related discipline desired
  • Worked in a four or five diamond/star resort or hotel. Must have strong working knowledge of hotel operations and various departments; experience in the luxury hotel setting strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Food and Beverage etiquette, guest relations and service standards.
  • Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Delphi FDC, Diagram Complete and Opera.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to assess client needs, negotiate pricing, and provide overall guest satisfaction.
  • Effectively deal with internal and external guests, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Sales skills and ability to build productive business relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Present a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Available to work varied shifts when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
