Position Overview:
As a Sommelier at “The Edge”, you will be responsible for curating and enhancing the guest wine experience through expert knowledge, exceptional service, and thoughtful pairings. You will manage the wine program, educate staff, and work closely with the culinary team to provide world-class food and wine pairings that align with the restaurant’s prestigious standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curate and maintain an extensive, world-class wine list that complements the restaurant’s cuisine and meets Forbes dining standards.
- Assist in managing all aspects of the restaurant’s day-to-day operations.
- Source, purchase, and maintain inventory control of wines, ensuring proper storage and cellar organization.
- Establish relationships with top-tier wine distributors and producers to ensure exclusive selections and premium offerings.
- Provide professional, knowledgeable, and engaging wine recommendations tailored to guest preferences.
- Offer tableside wine service, including decanting and proper presentation.
- Suggest perfect food and wine pairings, enhancing the overall dining experience.
- Engage with guests, sharing the story behind wines to create memorable experiences.
- Conduct ongoing wine education and tasting sessions for FOH staff to ensure a knowledgeable team.
- Train servers and bartenders on proper wine service, including glassware selection and serving temperatures.
- Stay updated on industry trends, wine regions, and emerging producers to enhance team knowledge.
- Uphold Forbes Travel Guide’s fine dining standards, ensuring a seamless and luxurious experience.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state liquor laws.
- Monitor and control wine costs to align with budget and profitability goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the team and business.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3 or Diploma, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sommelier in a fine dining or Michelin-starred restaurant.
- Strong understanding of wine pairing principles and global cuisine styles.
- Exceptional hospitality skills with a guest-first mentality.
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience managing a high-end wine program or beverage cost control.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to safely lift, move, and stack items weighing up to 40 lbs.
