General Summary:
Each Edgeworks location (Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma) is seeking one AMGA Assistant Single Pitch Instructor who can maintain a safe and fun learning environment for youth climbers, ages 7-17 in our Summer Camp program. The position will assist a lead SPI in the delivery of day-to-day operations during outdoor summer camps, including conducting high quality instruction, transportation, and risk management. The Assistant SPI works under the direct supervision and mentorship of the Lead SPI while in the field.
Assistant Summer Camp SPIs average 3 days per week of outdoor instruction. This work is paid hourly with an average of 10 hours per day. Assistant Single Pitch Instructors report to and collaborate with the Youth Program Manager. Opportunities may exist for indoor instruction work or continuing professional development for the right candidate.
Job Duties
- Assist the lead SPI in facilitating all aspects of single pitch rock instruction including leading sport climbs up to 5.8 in difficulty.
- Work collaboratively in a small team in a single pitch, front-country cragging environment.
- Demonstrate an inclusive teaching philosophy focused on developing confidence, ability and growth on and off the walls.
- Drive a 15-passenger van between the gym and the outdoor venue.
- Assist in managing program equipment, including daily inventory and loss prevention.
- Implement age-appropriate activities that motivate and engage youth climbers.
- Teach climbing skills, teamwork, and personal responsibility to a variety of ages.
- Abide by the fundamentals of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
Minimum qualifications
- AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) course or higher
- Current American Red Cross First Aid & CPR or higher
- Able to contribute to risk management decision-making and implementation in a team setting
- Available full-time from: June 16 - August 22, 2025
- Available for in-person training June 18-23 (TBD)
- At least 18 years old
Preferred qualifications
- Experience driving large vehicles
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record
- Leadership in an outdoor workplace
- Experience teaching climbing skills to youth
Employment Status and Compensation:
- Seasonal: June - early September
- Part-time, not to exceed 40 hours per week
- Locations: Based in Seattle (Ballard), Bellevue, WA or Tacoma, WA
- Typically Tuesday - Friday
- Hourly wage: $23.06 - $25.90, depending on experience & certification
