General Summary - Indoor Climbing Instructor
The Edgeworks Climbing School provides education and training to further the personal growth and development of responsible, independent, lifelong climbers. Climbing School Instructors' primary responsibility is to maintain an engaging learning environment for climbers taking classes to develop specific skills. The Climbing School Instructors report to and collaborate with the Climbing School Manager.
Core Functions:
- Maintain a learning environment that minimizes stress and risk
- Create a welcoming and inclusive space for those new to the sport
- Effectively manage risk for themselves and students
- Teach technical skills including top rope belaying, lead climbing, and lead belaying
- Teach climbing technique/movement skills to climbers with varying experience and ability levels
- Represent Edgeworks professionally while working and climbing recreationally
- Manage equipment used in the delivery of programs
- Become familiar with Edgeworks programs and products as to direct students to the right place to find more information
- Actively participate in required trainings
Minimum qualifications:
- Prior gym climbing experience and top-rope belay skills
- Previous lead climbing experience (indoors or outdoors)
- Able to obtain Edgeworks Top Rope & Lead Belay certifications
- Able to teach top rope belaying effectively on multiple devices
- Able to demonstrate and communicate fundamental and intermediate climbing movement
- Experience teaching climbing skills
- Able to communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Be able and willing to receive and give direct, timely and appropriate feedback
- At least 18 years old
Desired qualifications:
- Understanding of adult education principles, teaching methods, and classroom management
- Outdoor rock climbing knowledge and experience
- Professional certifications, including AMGA training or certification
