This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area and come into the office a minimum of three days each week with two of the mandatory days being Tuesday and Wednesday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES of the Director, State Energy & Regulatory Policy
EEI is excited to announce an opportunity for a Director, State Energy & Regulatory Policy. This role involves assisting the Executive Director, External Affairs and the Senior Director, State Regulatory Policy by serving as a second on key state regulatory policy issues. You will work collaboratively with External Affairs/Regulatory Affairs to develop policy materials (talking points, slides, position papers, etc.), assist EEI members in state proceedings and state legislation, and work with key trade allies and stakeholders. In addition, you will identify, develop, and advocate industry issues, develop issue papers, and serve as a technical expert for External Affairs and serve in an alignment function between the two departments.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
The salary range for this position is $130,000-$175,000 annually. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive which is prorated for mid-year start dates. This incentive is between 5%-10% of annual base salary, based on performance.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Engagement: Work with member company groups across External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs to develop policy positions, regulatory objectives, and advocacy strategies related to business model challenges, regulatory reform, rate reform, infrastructure investment, and the ability to integrate new technologies.
- Effective Communication: Engage in strategic discussions with allies and stakeholders on key regulatory and state legislative issues.
- Leadership: Oversee the Manager of Regulatory and External Affairs and Analyst, State Regulatory Policy and grow their capacity working with third party organizations in both the RA and EA portfolio.
- Assistance: Assist EEI members in state regulatory proceedings and state legislation by providing them with strategic and technical assistance.
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degreed preferred, preferably in political science or a related field.
- Minimum of eight years of experience in the regulatory or utility industry.
- Exceptional ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders to build consensus.
- Proficient in managing time, prioritizing workload, and multitasking while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and technical knowledge of the industry.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) require.
