Job Summary:
The position of Platting Assistant is an administrative level position within the Planning & Visioning Practice Area. The position involves routine administrative tasks and local travel to submit and record subdivision plats, or secure documents related to plat recordation. This position level receives immediate supervision from the Platting Project Manager and ultimately reports to the Practice Area Leader-Planning & Visioning.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares submittals to various local jurisdictions regarding platting activity of varying size and complexity.
- Creates, reviews, and assists in the review of plats to ensure compliance with codes, plans, and regulations.
- Frequent travel to perform property research, acquire needed project information and certified documents, and submit plats.
- Attend public meetings and assist other planning staff as appropriate.
- Occasional need to attend afterhours events.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The opportunity to gain the needed knowledge for this position is available while on the job.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of platting and jurisdictional requirements.
- Knowledge of a relevant specialization, such as easement and/or property recordation, with relevant county clerks and tax offices.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection.
- Knowledge of effective writing techniques.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which should include Microsoft Office and Internet applications, and potentially, graphics-oriented software including AutoCAD, Photoshop or Illustrator and GIS.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to project conditions.
- Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed.
- Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to keep track of time spent on various projects.
Work Environment:
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
- Use of a personal vehicle for job related purposes will be compensated per established reimbursement rates. A toll tag will be provided or reimbursed.
Education, Certification and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area of study is preferred.
- 0 -3 years’ experience
- Commission as a Notary Public is required but can be obtained while employed.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must have reliable/dependable transportation.
- Must maintain minimum vehicle insurance as required by state law.
