Job Summary:
This position will assist PMs on traffic engineering and transportation planning projects for TxDOT, Counties, Cities and Private Clients.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs traffic impact studies, signal warrant studies, intersection analysis, and corridor studies.
- Analyze and interpret data from traffic modeling softwares.
- Design and prepare plans, such as traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, traffic control plans, illumination, and ITS utilizing CAD software.
- Prepare detailed study reports.
- Provides technical and engineering support in traffic group.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
- Prepare construction documents which include plans, specifications and engineering estimates.
- Identify technical approach for solving problems and meeting customer/client needs.
- Interact in a collaborative manner with other team members, staff, and clients to accomplish organizational goals; network within and beyond own technical peer group.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills, attention to detail, and be proactive in nature.
- Ability to build strong relationships
- Must have Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM).
- Familiarity with TxDOT, Harris County, and COH traffic standards is a plus
Work Environment:
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.
Education, certification and experience:
- Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering is required
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or licensed professional engineering in Texas (PE)
- 3 years of experience working in Traffic Engineering
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Experience with SYNCHRO, HCS and other traffic engineering computer software.
- Experience with technical report preparation.
