Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services is seeking candidates for a Manager of Information Technology Services 1 position. Reporting to the Manager Information Technology Services 2, the Manager Information Technology Services 1 will oversee the Security Operations Unit. This unit is pivotal in implementing the security services crucial to the Department, facilitating the delivery of security solutions in a faster and more secure manner. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: • Supervise, lead and manage a team of Information Technology professionals responsible for Security Operations; • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the efficient and effective execution of security initiatives; • Ensure that security requirements are incorporated into designs by overseeing the team and reviewing proposed designs and configurations to ensure alignment with security principles and standards; • Work with upper-level management to develop and manage the budget for the Unit; • Allocate resources effectively to support security initiatives and ensure optimal use of financial resources for the team under the incumbent’s supervision; • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to investigate incidents, contain threats, and implement remediation measures; • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of security monitoring tools and technologies to continuously monitor for suspicious activities and potential security breaches and respond to security incidents in a timely manner; • Generate regular reports for senior management, summarizing key security and technical metrics; • Remain abreast of evolving technical and security requirements and communicate compliance obligations to relevant stakeholders; • Collaborate with other departments, such as NYSED’s Information Security Office and Workplace Technical Operations, to address technical challenges and initiatives impacting Security Operations Unit; • Foster a collaborative approach to technical solutions and security across the organization; and • Perform other duties as assigned.
