MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent, non-competitive service as a Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Audiovisual).
Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have five years of experience in audiovisual services.
Duties Description
The New York State Museum’s Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking applicants for the position of Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Audiovisual) in the Museum Exhibitions unit. Under the direction of a Museum Exhibit Specialist 2, the incumbent of this position will coordinate with other Museum staff in meeting the exhibit production schedule. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Fabricate and install specialized digital, audiovisual and security devices, including lighting apparatus’;
- Maintain and refurbish specifically identified exhibit areas and elements pertaining to audiovisual, security and computer interactive exhibits;
- Support audiovisual equipment for museum events, concerts and lectures;
- Perform regular maintenance and preventative maintenance on equipment, including projectors, audio-amplifiers, audio and video players, video displays, cameras, computer exhibit elements and security devices;
- Aid in exhibition installation, as needed; and
- Adjust and clean lighting devices, as required.

This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The hours of this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, including weekend and evening coverage on a rotational basis.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $68,269 based on annual performance advances.
