Education Week, a nonprofit media organization that provides the most trusted news on K-12 education, is seeking a Video/Social Video Producer to join our visuals team.

Job Summary

The Video/Social Video Producer is a contract position within the Visual and Immersive Experiences team and is responsible for creating editorial video content that engages the audience through animation and relevant visuals, in addition to creating photo and video content for editorial and social, and filming EdWeek’s live events. This position reports to the Director of Photography and Videography and collaborates with other newsroom teams and visual colleagues to create content for Education Week, on and off platforms.

This contractor position will require approximately 28 hours of work per week, and the length of the contract is flexible. The rate for this position is between $25-30/hour, commensurate with experience. Occasional filming in the organization’s Bethesda, Md., office is required so candidates in the Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area are preferred, compensation will not be provided for travel beyond the region. This position does not include benefits.

Responsibilities 

  • Pitch, plan, shoot, edit, and produce vertical and horizontal video for multiple platforms based around the editorial coverage of EdWeek and EdWeek Market Brief as well as original content that is journalistically powerful and visually transformative – video work could include explainers (with or without reporters), short form editorial videos, and post-production video editing
  • Utilize video animation and other relevant visual elements to create compelling, fast-paced video content in collaboration with both the organization’s editorial and social teams while balancing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Assist VEX team in photo research, sourcing, and editing images for news stories with an eye toward journalistic integrity

Qualifications 

  • 1-3 years related experience in a fast-paced news/media/information environment
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite, including Premiere and After Effects
  • Adaptability and working knowledge of different content management systems
  • Solid news judgment, strong story sense, and the ability to interview, edit, and produce content
  • Demonstrate, support, and understand the key values of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission
  • Great attention to detail and ability to perform duties under deadlines and within ethical and technical standards
  • Advanced grasp of time management and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Interested in all forms of visual journalism – from video and photography to still and motion graphics 
  • Great communicator, comfortable working with colleagues on team and across company
  • Working knowledge of the best types of video for different social media platforms, as well as the wire services and other archives
