- Maintain the appropriate credentials for the SSO position
- Endorse high moral standards
- Demonstrate effective communication with students and staff
- Address crime and disorder on the school campus
- Understand legal issues that apply to the school environment and the surrounding community
- Provides a highly visible and vigilant presence to deter or identify trespassers on campus
- Build relationships with students and act as a liaison to community services
- Teach students about crime prevention, drug awareness, conflict resolution and other topics related to law enforcement
- Works in collaboration with law enforcement to investigate violations of criminal law
- List, define and understand strategies for school safety
- Work in collaboration to develop and deploy emergency procedures and safety plans
- Active member of the School Threat Assessment Team
- Support school safety initiatives
- Be thoroughly familiar with the school building and the school campus
- Assist in conflict resolution efforts
- Serve as a resource to educators by conducting classroom presentation to compliment the school curriculum
- Use the resources provided as well as seeking out new resources for the prevention, observation, intervention, investigation and reporting of unlawful acts
- Attend extra -curricular events to foster a positive relationship between SSO and the community
