Job Title: Dorm Parent
Reports to: Director of Residential Life and Boarding
Overview: The Dorm Parent oversees and supports the social and emotional well-being of students within their residence. They foster a safe and inclusive environment by serving as a consistent and compassionate presence in students’ daily lives. Dorm Parents ensure a structured and supportive residential experience that promotes accountability, personal growth, and community engagement. Additionally, they provide guidance to the Residential Life Team, upholding high standards of care, leadership, and student development. Professional Qualifications and Qualities:
- Experience in a residential setting is required.
- Experience working with adolescents in educational, residential, or care-taking environments.
- Desire to work with young people to support their well-being and growth
- Commitment to making a positive impact within a boarding school environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
- Experience with diversity, inclusion, and restorative justice initiatives
- Ability to administer policies fairly and consistently
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours (early mornings, evenings, and weekends)
- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Key Responsibilities: Committed Caretakers
- Supervise a community of approximately 20 to 40 boarding students
- Ensure students’ well-being through regular check-ins and meetings
- Assist in daily routines, including morning wake-ups, student activities study halls, and curfews
- Monitor and report student concerns through the App Orah.
- Maintain a safe living environment through room checks and supervision.
- Provide medical care support and accompany students to appointments, if necessary.
- Manage student accommodations, including room assignments and maintenance.
- Address and manage conflict among students. Ensure a positive and respectful living environment for each student.
- Other duties as needed may be assigned.
Relationship Builders
- Lead in fostering strong relationships within the community.
- Ensure that all students feel heard, supported, included and cared for.
- Organize activities to create a home-like environment for students.
- Act as a liaison between students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and well-being.
- Plan and implement community-building activities and events.
- Hold hall meetings to reinforce positive connections among students.
- Participate in and support school events and student activities.
Inspiring Educators
- Create intentional learning opportunities through residential life programming.
- Model positive behavior and self-management skills for students.
- Educate students on self-discipline, well-being, and community engagement.
- Implement restorative justice practices and proactive conflict resolution.
- Train and mentor Residential Life staff and Boarding Student Leaders.
- Conduct induction and orientation sessions for new students and staff.
- Fostering cultural awareness and student leadership.
Working Hours & Expectations:
- This is a full-time, hourly residential position with on-campus housing provided year-round.
- Requires early morning, evening, and weekend shifts, including overnight on-call duty.
- Participation in student arrival/departure days, school activities, and inclement weather days.
- Public holiday staffing as needed, with specific holiday expectations outlined.
- Participation in additional projects and responsibilities that align with the needs of the community.
