Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Communications Manager to lead inaugural public relations, communications, marketing and branding efforts in support of a new non-profit educational foundation.
This role will focus on promoting the foundation’s programs, events, and initiatives while ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all channels. The ideal candidate will be a strong storyteller with experience in the marketing, non-profit or education sector, skilled in creating compelling content that engages stakeholders, donors, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities
Website Management
- Develop, manage and update the foundation’s website to reflect current programs, events, and success stories.
- Create and curate content such as blogs, impact reports, and resources tailored to educators, donors, and stakeholders.
- Ensure the website is accessible, user-friendly, and optimized for search engines to increase visibility.
- Build, track and increase engagement.
Social Media Management
- Develop and execute a social media strategy that drives engagement and awareness of the foundation’s mission.
- Create and manage content calendars to share program updates, success stories, and fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor and analyze social media performance metrics to refine strategies and grow the foundation’s community.
Presentations and Materials Development
- Design and develop impactful presentations and pitch materials for prospective supporters – sponsors, partners and donors.
- Collaborate with program team to create brochures, annual reports, and other collateral.
- Partner with sponsors to ensure co-branded materials reflect agreements and guidelines.
Community Engagement
- Manage and maintain contact lists on CRM and partner with program team on the development and execution of e-mail message campaigns
- Assist in planning and promoting events and sponsorship/fundraising initiatives.
Public Relations (PR)
- Develop and implement PR strategies that highlight the foundation’s impact and mission.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, marketing and education journalists, and community leaders.
- Craft press releases, impact stories, and media kits to promote the foundation’s programs and milestones.
- Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and manage crisis communication as needed.
Brand
- Support the development of branding for the organization, including brand guidelines; ensure these are current, adhered to across the organization and adopted by partners
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Non-Profit Management, Marketing, or a related field.
- 7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related role, preferably in an agency or non-profit or educational organization. Start-up experience a plus.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a focus on storytelling and impact narratives.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and CRM systems (Hubspot or Salesforce).
- Strong graphic design and presentation skills (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint, or Adobe Creative Suite).
- Experience with data analytics tools for website and social media (e.g., Google Analytics, Hootsuite).
- Demonstrated passion for marketing education and a commitment to advancing the foundation’s mission.
- Excitement for building a communications function from scratch. Ability to tackle projects both micro and macro and work independently.

Foundation employees work in-office in New York on Tuesdays and Thursdays and other days as desired. Based on program scheduling and changing needs, additional in-office days and/or occasional travel may be required.

NYC Salary range: $120,000- $140,000
Please note that the salary range is intended to give as an indicator of the salaries that could be attributed to the breadth or experience for a given role. All candidates will be measured based on their level of experience.
