Job Title – Attendance/Truancy Officer (part-time)
Reports to: Registration Supervisor
Job Purpose: The attendance officer takes an active role in verifying the residency of students who attend district schools. The attendance officer also focuses on reducing and preventing continued excessive absenteeism and truancy.
Qualifications - Required
Valid New Jersey driver’s license
Able to work a flexible schedule
Able to work successfully with all families through culturally sensitive interactions
Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
Able to speak English clearly and accurately
Excellent organizational skills
Able to multitask
Able to use relevant technology
Able to pass the Criminal History Review
Able to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure
Able to Pass Pre-Employment Physical Exam
Qualifications – Desired
Associates/Bachelors Degree in a related field
2-3 years of experience serving as an attendance officer, truancy officer or related role
2-3 years working within a school district
Knowledge of child welfare and compulsory education laws and regulations
Knowledge of student information systems software
Able to converse in multiple languages
Duties/Responsibilities
Investigates Residency to verify that students are residents of the district
Acts as a representative of the Egg Harbor Township Board of Education when meeting members of the community, parents and students
Utilizes school and district data related to attendance and truancy, as well as information provided by each school, administration or anonymous sources, when assigned cases to investigate
Works with schools, parents , law enforcement and community resources to address truancy and residency concerns
Issues citations or referrals to Juvenile Probation as directed by the Registration Supervisor
Obtains daily student absentee lists from all schools to verify the reasons for individual absences
Maintains a daily Student Attendance log including calls made to parents/guardians
Maintains a daily Truancy Log to include dates and locations of all home visits
Maintains accurate records, documentation and photographs of all residency investigations
Submits monthly reports to the Registration Supervisor which includes written reports and records related to attendance/truancy violations
Notifies parents/guardians of their legal responsibility and obligation to comply with the attendance laws
Conducts truancy mediation meetings
Appears in court on behalf of the district
Assists the Registration Supervisor with maintaining student records pertaining to but not limited to, Registrations, DCP&P, McKinney Vento and Affidavits, and re-approves for ACIT, Charter, Choice and non-public students
Assists the registration department with incoming students in grades Pre-K – 12
Responds to all communications: telephone, voice mail, and electronic mail concerning attendance/truancy information
Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments
Adheres strictly to all Board of Education and Administrative policies, regulations and procedures
Meets daily with the Registration Supervisor
Performs all duties in a safe, prudent and professional manner
Other duties as assigned by the Registration Supervisor

Minimum Prorated Annual Salary of $25,286
10-month position with 20 additional days from July 5th through Labor Day
Possible evenings and/or Saturdays as needed
