Job Description
El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (“El Buen”) is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) to coordinate the day-to-day activities of the volunteer services to facilitate and enhance the delivery of programs and services and engage the community. The CEC will oversee the recruitment, placement and training of direct service volunteers; works with program managers to assess ongoing volunteer needs and matches skills and interests of volunteers to the needs of the organization; promotes the volunteer program in the community; supports community engagement and development initiatives, including the planning and execution of annual events.
This position will office on campus at El Buen headquarters. This is a salaried position Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends, and events.

What You Will be Doing:
Evaluation and Placement: (30%)
- Manage the evaluation, screening and placement process for volunteers to ensure El Buen offers a positive and enriching volunteer experience
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the best match between the skills and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organization.
- Coordinate cross-departmentally to identify opportunities for the utilization and placement of skill-based volunteers.
- Plan, develop and partner with program supervisors to execute a comprehensive, engaging onboarding plan for new volunteers,
- Lead mandatory training sessions, obtain signed volunteer agreements and handbook acknowledgement and other risk control measures
- In collaboration with HR, facilitate Safeguarding compliance, lead mandatory training sessions, engage onboarding in collaboration with managers.
- Document volunteer activities, maintaining related information and paperwork (e.g. Safeguarding certifications, sign-in sheets, service hours) and submitting reports as assigned
- Assist with conflict resolution among clients, staff and volunteers according to established procedures
- Establish and implement a process for evaluating the contribution of individual volunteers
- Participate in the budget planning process; administer and monitor expenditures for the volunteer program against the approved budget
- Collaborate with the development/communications team for ongoing communication and feedback to keep volunteers engaged and informed (e-newsletter, individual correspondences, check-ins, satisfaction surveys)
- Implement volunteer management best practices
- Maintain and update the volunteer database
- Develop and carry out an outreach strategy to promote the volunteer program and recruit skill-based volunteers
- Build partnerships with local organizations who can provide a sustainable base of skilled volunteers (e.g., Episcopal churches and schools, colleges and universities, volunteer leagues and corporations)
- Collaborate with the development/communications team to utilize traditional outreach and social media as well as to develop informational material for volunteers.
- Speak to community groups and attend volunteer fairs
- Host informational sessions and gives campus tours to prospective volunteers and groups
- Represent and advocate for the organization in the community
- Partner with the Development team to recruit, train, and inspire fundraising volunteers
- Provide support for the planning and execution of El Buen annual events Back to School and Hands for Hope/Posadas, working with Program & Development/Communications teams to recruit and inspire volunteer participation
- Support the planning and execution of volunteer appreciation events
- Support fundraising events as needed, including organization’s anniversary events.
- Plans and implements formal and informal volunteer recognition activities
- Coordinates with the development department on stewardship activities; provides information to Development to transition service volunteers to donor prospects.
- Develops a retention program for current, one-time volunteers to transition into recurring volunteers
- Engages in organization capacity-building activities
- Adheres to the organization’s privacy and non-disclosure policies regarding volunteer, donor and client information. Support and participate in Development activities as needed, including the development of donor and volunteer-centered content for social media, email, newsletters, radio and TV
- Participate in networking events and give presentations on behalf of El Buen
- Participate in annual Development Strategic Planning and Annual Development Plan
- Participate in emergency response operations as needed to address community disasters.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, and
- Minimum of three (3) years of proven work experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, development or related nonprofit work, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Certificate in Volunteer Management preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate (strong oral and written communications skills) and work well with a variety of stakeholders from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to generate enthusiasm and interest from others for working in El Buen’s programs
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing business environment including learning and applying new training and knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, analyze data, make good decisions, attend to details, and prioritize multiple projects at one time
