THE ORGANIZATION

El Centro Hispano, Inc. is looking for individuals with passion and creativity to create meaningful impact in the Hispanic and immigrant community of Westchester County. Since 1974 El Centro Hispano has been changing the lives of our clients through education, technology, support services, cultural events, outreach, counseling and empowerment, and through special activities. They include English as a Second Language; High School Equivalency Prep; educational and informational workshops; semimonthly food distribution; legal and medical health insurance assistance; free health services, as well as translation services and assistance in finding housing and looking for employment. These programs educate and inform the immigrant community about how to exercise their rights in this country and prepare them to succeed and make a better future for themselves and their children. Each year El Centro assists between 4,000 and 6,000 unduplicated clients.

POSITION OVERVIEW

El Centro Hispano is seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Worker to join our team. The Outreach Worker will be responsible for engaging with the Hispanic and immigrant community in Westchester and providing them with access to essential services, resources, and support systems. This position requires a commitment to social justice, cultural competency, and a strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families facing various challenges.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Answer incoming phone calls and inquiries from clients, providing information, assistance, and referrals as needed.

· Provide information, referrals, and assistance to individuals accessing services such as healthcare, legal aid, housing assistance, food resources, job training, and educational programs.

· Translate a variety of legal documents, including marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates, and other relevant paperwork, from English to Spanish and vice versa.

· Ensure accurate and culturally sensitive translation of documents, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

· Assist clients in filling out applications for various services, benefits, and programs, including but not limited to immigration forms, social services applications, healthcare enrollment, and educational opportunities.

· Provide guidance and support to clients throughout the application process, clarifying instructions, reviewing documents, and advocating on their behalf when necessary.

· Maintain accurate records of clients assisted, services provided, and outcomes achieved, utilizing El Centro’s intake system.

· Ensure compliance with confidentiality protocols and data protection regulations in handling sensitive client information.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· Fluency in both English and Spanish, with native-level proficiency in both languages, is essential for effective communication and translation tasks.

· Preference will be given to college students currently pursuing degrees in relevant fields (e.g., Hispanic/Latino studies, social work, public health, education) to participate in our programs and initiatives. This position is ideal for motivated and ambitious young professionals seeking practical experience and opportunities for professional growth.

· Previous experience working with diverse populations, particularly Hispanic and Latino communities preferred.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

· Knowledge of community resources, social services, and support networks in White Plains and Westchester County.

· Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs and experiences of Hispanic and Latino individuals and families.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to collaboration and mutual support.

· Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to respond to the changing needs of the community.

· Willingness to adapt to El Centro’s culture and requirements.
