What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor - Specialty Staff position at El Concilio California?
THE POSITION: Under supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Youth Mentor Specialty Staff will facilitate a wide range of creative activities for students within the Afterschool Program. This position will be responsible for providing academic enrichment activities related to a diverse curriculum. The objective of the program is to provide structure and create a fun learning environment where students can expand their interest and build interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all El Concilio California policies and procedures.
- Create structured lesson plans related to specialty assigned.
- Develop engaging activities where students of all grade levels can participate.
- Provide supervision to all students before, during and after workshops.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of students indoors and outdoors.
- Prepare written accident reports as necessary.
- Follow Mandated Reporter protocols based on training when necessary.
- Participate in relevant trainings and collaborative meetings as required.
- Respond to childrens needs, emergencies, and mediate conflicts that may occur during activities.
- Gather materials prior to visiting different sites.
- Create inventory of materials and ensure all items are carefully stored at headquarters.
- Provide all students necessary equipment and provide instruction on use of materials for safety purposes.
- Work alongside and collaborate with youth mentors and other specialty staff.
- Assist other Youth Mentors with coverage during site assignment as needed.
- Keep accurate information regarding student attendance and progress during activities.
- Relay any information to Lead Youth Mentors and Program Coordinator regarding program updates.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all students, parents and school personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 18 years of age or valid work permit.
- Must undergo and pass fingerprint background check
- Retain or complete a negative Tuberculosis test
- Reliable transportation or personal vehicle is highly preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma/GED equivalency and 48 semester units is highly preferred; or a high school diploma/GED equivalency is required in lieu of 48 semester units.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to communicate clearly; read and write in English language is required. Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Californias Drivers License is required.
- Must undergo and complete CPR & First Aid within the first 90 days of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Primary work environment is an Elementary School setting. The employee is regularly required to work inside a classroom setting and outside in moderate weather.
