HVAC Technician II:
Full Salary Range: $55,150.00 - $79,920.00 annually
Hiring Range: $60,000 - $69,000 annually
HVAC Technician III:
Full Salary Range: $59,270.00 - $88,900.00 annually
Hiring Range: $68,000 - $72,800 annually
This position has an anticipated work schedule of either Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm or four, 10-hour shifts Monday - Thursday/Tuesday - Friday, 6:30am - 5:00pm. Schedule is subject to change.

Performs a wide variety of duties associated with all phases of HVAC preventive maintenance, cleaning, repair, modification, adjustment, and lubrication of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, associated equipment, and fixtures. Assists in accomplishing other building maintenance and repair (i.e. carpentry, electrical, and plumbing). Assignments are made in the form of written or verbal instructions and may be accompanied by sketches and blueprints, although much of the work arises out of inspections and troubleshooting. Work is ordinarily performed independently but may work as part of a team.
- Performs preventive maintenance and services and repairs mechanical equipment, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, such as steam and hot water boilers, forced air units, and associated components.
- Tests, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and corrects mechanical problems to ensure systems remain operational to applicable codes and design standards.
- Repairs or replaces compressors, unit controls, thermostats, pumps, water pressure regulators, and other parts of mechanical systems; charges refrigeration; inspects, cleans, and replaces filters as necessary.
- Performs electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical testing of equipment; diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems; repairs or replaces defective parts in units, equipment, and controls.
- Performs other building maintenance tasks supporting building maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc., when requested.
- Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; maintains work order of work performed and material used.
- Assists supervisor and HVAC Technicians in scheduling work orders and completing paperwork. Updates information on work order forms as required to reflect conditions in the field accurately.
- Performs on-call responsibilities as required in support of all County buildings, including correctional facilities.
- Cleans debris from work area, parts, and equipment.
- Assists in snow removal and other weather-related duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised: This classification does not have supervisory authority and requires no supervision or direction of others.
Supervision Received: Receives intermittent supervision. This classification normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor is expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and associated maintenance and repairs.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to accomplishing facility maintenance and repair. Ability to observe and follow safety procedures and precautions.
- Knowledge of additional building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Skilled in the care and use of tools and equipment commonly used in building maintenance, such as hand tools, power tools, gauges, pumps, detectors, and test equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain electrical test/diagnostic equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and combustion gas analyzers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from wiring diagrams, code books, sketches, layouts, and blueprints; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and County employees. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Two years of professional HVAC experience accomplishing maintenance and repairs in commercial or industrial buildings.
- Certification or Associate's degree in HVAC Technology or related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Three years of progressive experience working as a journeyman HVAC Technician accomplishing maintenance and repair in commercial or industrial buildings.
- Certification or Associate's degree in HVAC Technology or related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Licenses/Certificates
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification, or have the ability to successfully obtain within ninety days of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a Federal Universal CFC Certificate, or pass certification test within six months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain Pikes Peak Regional Building Department Mechanical IV license or obtain within six months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a Federal Universal CFC Certificate.
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.
