What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sheriff's Office Volunteer (Wildland Firefighter) position at El Paso County (CO)?

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) Volunteer Program is composed of a collective citizens group with a true and common desire to partner with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office by volunteering their services while learning more about the internal workings of the law enforcement community. The use of citizen volunteers assists the Sheriff's Office in meeting these demands and, as the demand continues to grow, so will the need for active citizen participation. As an on-call Wildland Firefighter, respond to and suppress fires in El Paso County and surrounding areas, assist with mitigation and public education.Volunteers will be utilized in non-law enforcement support duties. Common duties performed by the volunteers may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- To respond to and suppress fires in El Paso County and surrounding counties.
- Participate in ignition and control of prescribed fires.
- Attend Wildland Fire Crew training sessions and meetings.
- Mitigation projects, community outreach and education efforts, out of county/out of state deployments.
- Other duties based on operational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be a law-abiding citizen with good intent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be willing to commit at least 80 volunteer hours annually.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
- Certificate of course completion for ICS-700 and ICS-100 preferred.
- Current National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) certification including S-130, S-190, S-131, S-212, S-260, and S-290 trainings preferred.
- Advanced First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
- To deploy, must be able to pass rigorous physical agility test and maintain the NWCG Red Card qualification (Incident Qualifications Card). Program priority is given to deployable volunteer firefighters.
- Must pass background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, physical examination, and truth verification examination.
