Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. Attend and successfully complete the Texas Accessibility Academy and pass the Registered Accessibility Specialist examination within one year of appointment.
General Purpose
Under general direction, this position will advance the City's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Facilitate the process for complaints. Serve as the designated ADA Coordinator by promoting the city's ADA accessibility compliance with municipal, state and federal accessibility codes and regulations for all city projects and facilities.
Typical Duties
Monitor compliance with ADA accessibility requirements. Involves: Review blue prints and construction bid specifications for compliance with accessibility requirements. Conduct construction and facility site visits to assess compliance. Prepare written reports, letters and memoranda to architects, construction contractors, service providers, and city departments. Respond to citizen complaints regarding accessibility issues.Develop and oversee public awareness efforts pertaining to accessibility. Involves: Develop and implement community outreach, public awareness programs, seminars and workshops on issues for citizens with disabilities. Act as liaison with disability organizations, community programs, businesses and government agencies. Respond to citizen complaints and concerns. Provide staff support to the Accessibility Advisory Committee.Represent the department and provide technical support, information and guidance on accessibility issues. Involves: Respond to requests for information on accessibility codes and regulations. Assist in updating the transitional plan to bring city facilities into compliance.Provide interpretation of municipal, state and federal codes, regulations and policies. Prepare complex comprehensive documents on accessibility studies and analysis, special reports and recommendations. Attend task force, committee, compliance and professional meetings to represent the department.Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
