Reports To: School Principal
Salary: 10 Month Position based on the State Salary Matrix.
Position Overview
Elba Elementary School is seeking a compassionate and motivated School Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support and guidance to students in academic, social, and emotional development, helping them achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Consults with and is a resource to teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling content into the regular education curriculum.
- Collaborates with elementary and middle school personnel to assist students in making a smooth transition to middle school.
- Informs students and parents of test results and their implications for educational and career planning.
- Facilitates conferences with teachers and/or parents and/or students.
- Plans and conducts parent education programs.
- Assists families with school-related problems and issues.
- Consults with and refers students with problems (and their parents) to community based resources including, but not limited to, psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, service agencies, etc.
- Cooperates and collaborates with other professionals in enhancing the education of students.
- Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.
- Serves on school and/or system committees, advisory boards, and/or task forces as needed.
- Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school.
- Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities and assigned.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s).
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Valid Alabama State Certification in School Counseling.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a school counselor or in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary school-aged children is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families.
- Knowledge of child development, behavioral strategies, and academic support tools.
- Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive situations.
Work Environment
- This position is based at Elba Elementary School in Elba, Alabama.
- The counselor will work in an office setting, classrooms, and other school areas as needed.
