Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer position focused on manufacturing and optimization of glass components processed through similar means as optical fiber draw. This position requires an in-depth knowledge material science, specifically in glass. Position responsibilities include :
- Optimizing manufacturing and process systems and implementing cost reduction opportunities (yield and productivity improvements, waste elimination)
- Diagnosing process and equipment issues and working with area engineering technician and maintenance teams to keep equipment running optimally
- Working with and assisting in training bargaining unit employees to improve work processes and product quality
- Working to minimize or eliminate safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity problems
- Working with R&D engineering to test, refine and implement new product ideas
- Assist with new glass composition development
- Using hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, and process equipment
- Primary engineering oversight of Fiber Draw / Boule fabrication, bevel, and polish. Acts as a resource for other engineers and technicians.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
