About Us
Elderly Housing Management Inc. (EHM) is a non-profit organization managing low and moderate-income elderly housing complexes throughout Connecticut and one in Massachusetts.
Job Summary
The Resident Engagement Coordinator (REC) provides opportunities for residents to maintain their physical and emotional health through creative, educational, celebratory, and service activities. The REC helps foster a sense of community among residents, allowing them to be challenged and thereby improving their quality of life. The REC will encourage, support, and abide by all EHM safety regulations.
Position Responsibilities
Fiscal:
- Maintain the program budget conscientiously and accurately in accordance with EHM policy.
Physical:
- Decorate common areas for seasonal displays and upcoming programs.
- Ensure the removal of said decorations in a timely manner.
- Report safety and/or building maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Superintendent or Property Manager.
Regulatory:
- Not applicable to this position.
Resident Services:
- Assess the resident population and, through surveys, develop a program plan that is well-balanced to meet residents' physical, social, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive needs.
- Implement recreational, skill-building, and enrichment activities to encourage learning, new technology use, and opportunities through service projects.
- Assist residents in creating and managing resident groups or organizations, providing guidance as needed.
- Foster participation in community life and activities.
Communication:
- Collaborate with the Resident Service Coordinator to identify residents’ needs and develop programs to address them.
- Coordinate with local Senior Centers or elderly service organizations to encourage resident participation in their activities and avoid schedule conflicts.
- Foster a team-oriented relationship among staff and maintain an approachable and receptive demeanor toward residents.
- Attend training sessions required by EHM.
Professional Requirements
- A college degree or a minimum of five years of experience working with people, preferably the elderly.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to relate to and work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic and minority backgrounds.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional, respectful, and approachable demeanor toward the elderly.
Physical Requirements
- Physical effort is required, including lifting and carrying weights up to ten pounds (e.g., craft supplies and decorations).
- Frequent bending, squatting, and grasping for activities with seated residents, occasional stair climbing, and mobility around the facility and grounds.
- Agility to conduct moderate physical activities such as armchair exercises.
- Ability to communicate effectively via telephone, in person, and in writing.
