SUMMARY
The MEP Estimator is responsible for estimating work as scheduled by the Chief Estimator or Operations Director for bid. Estimator will prepare cost estimates for electrical projects, bid projects, prepare portions of contract proposal estimates, communicate with clients, vendors, engineers, architects, building officials, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, determine scope of work, review design options and price all field change orders. The right person will have better than intermediate skills in BIM creation and clash detection for MEP systems of renovation and new construction designs. Knowledge of application of radar penetrating wall as-built plans is a plus but not a requirement. This position is located in Burlington, NC and carries a compensation package that is well above standard for the area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares cost estimates from design conception to basic design as requested for institutional, industrial and commercial renovation, service and new construction project purposes
- Utilizing BIM and incorporating WPR technology analyses and reports on conflicts with other specified trade work, including structural and MEP designs, new or existing.
- Examines and reviews unusual cost records and ensures costs data is allocated correctly within the construction environment
- Updates organizational cost standards on a regular basis for new projects
- Tracks market prices for construction costs, equipment, material and labor for inclusion in the company data base
Requirements:
- Education: Four-year business or engineering degree or equivalent experience as in a minimum of 3 years in the specified role.
- Experience: 5 years minimum electrical field experience
- Experience: 3 years minimum as an assistant estimator utilizing the required technology
Skills:
- Standards: NEC, NFPA, UL and ISA, as related to design and documentation
- Classifications: Area classification requirements as related to design and documentation
- Wiring: techniques, color-coding, sizing and de-rating, and insulation classifications
- Plans: Able to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layout drawings and wiring diagrams and modify them for optimization
- Applications: Proficient in computer software including MS Office, Procore, any BIM platform and McCormick estimating software

SAFETY
- Identify and promote safety awareness by developing specific training programs and processes, and ensure implementation during company meetings, job sites, etc...
- Manage and maintain all safety equipment to ensure it is within compliance and in working order.
- Conduct site visits to ensure that safety precautions are in place and being adhered to on all job sites.
- Conduct hazard analysis for new jobs and ensure hazard precautions are in place for all ETI employees.
- Assist in selection of appropriate PPE

WORK HOURS
- The work hours for this position will vary based on client need and project schedule.
DRESS CODE
- Dress code in the office is business casual.
- On job sites, shirts must have a minimum of 6” sleeves and must be of full length.
- Pants and shirts must be clean and neat with no holes.
- Undergarments should not be seen.
- Work boots are required.
- Safety shoes are recommended and may be required on some jobs.
- Tennis shoes, sneakers, soft-soled or worn-out shoes are not allowed.
