Element Science, Inc. is a medical device and digital health company focused on developing solutions at the intersection of clinical-grade wearables, machine learning algorithms, and lifesaving therapies in order to address leading causes of death and hospitalization in patients with heart disease, primarily as they transition from the hospital-to-home. By putting the needs of patients and physicians first, our personalized digital devices, which are designed for function, comfort, and ease-of-use, aim to redefine the paradigm of care for these patients. Our first product, a wearable patch defibrillator, is initially targeted at treating the more than 500,000 patients in the US with an elevated temporary risk of potentially experiencing a lethal heart rhythm. Based in San Francisco, our funders include Third Rock Ventures, Google Ventures, Deerfield Healthcare, Qiming Venture Partners USA, Cormorant Asset Management, and Invus Opportunities.

Responsibilities
- Strategic Procurement Leadership: Design and execute purchasing strategies that optimize costs while maintaining the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance. Lead complex projects, including outsourced manufacturing initiatives.
- Cost Optimization & Budgeting: Take charge of procurement budgets by implementing smart cost-saving measures—without ever compromising quality or compliance. Your expertise will make a direct impact on the bottom line.
- Supplier Excellence: Build and nurture strong supplier partnerships to ensure reliability, quality, and adherence to industry standards. Track and analyze key supply chain metrics to drive continuous improvement and supplier performance.
- Strong Negotiator: Secure the best pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers, ensuring cost-effective agreements that align with business goals.
- Proactive Risk Management: Anticipate supply chain disruptions before they happen. Develop contingency plans and alternate sourcing strategies to mitigate risks and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing teams to streamline procurement processes and keep production moving seamlessly.
- ERP & Data Optimization: Play a key role in the implementation and optimization of ERP systems, ensuring accurate purchasing records and leveraging data for smarter decision-making.
- Purchasing Order Management: Authorizing payments and managing purchasing expenses with meticulous record-keeping.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant certifications (APICS) a plus. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in purchasing and materials management, ideally within the medical device sector.
- Strong understanding of Class II and III medical device regulations, including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and MDR compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems, procurement software, and Microsoft Office Suite to streamline purchasing operations.
- Demonstrated success in driving cost savings, negotiating supplier contracts, and evaluating supplier performance to optimize supply chain efficiency.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams and cross-functional partnerships.
