JOB GOAL: To support all students and staff at Perry Elementary School in collaboration with the building principal, with am emphasis on those students with unique learning needs by providing them the supports and resources that they need to be knowledgeable and productive citizens of character. The Elementary Associate Principal and Elementary Director of Learning Supports will support the work of the building principal, while serving as the director for special education programs at the elementary level.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support Elementary Principal with daily operations of the building including responding to discipline and support as needed, supporting classroom teachers with academic rigor, assisting with substitute coverage for teachers and para positions as applicable.
- Collaborate with and serve as point of contact for Heartland AEA Regional Director, AEA Administrative team, and AEA staff regarding identification and evaluation of students for special education related services, and the assignment and utilization of AEA support staff and services at the elementary level.
- Serve as the district contact for all special education related matters with the Department of Education including but not limited to the identification of special education students, ACHIEVE IEP system, certified special education count, alternate assessment, and accommodations for state assessments for the elementary level.
- Lead and coordinate, in collaboration with building principals and Secondary Director of Learning Supports the staffing and hiring of all special education teachers and paraeducators.
- Serve as an active member of the cabinet and administrative teams, collaborating with cabinet members regarding special transportation and billing for students tuition in/out of district, as well as overall needs of Perry Elementary.
- Maintain all elementary records for Chapter 103 incidents of seclusion and restraint; ensuring that all staff are properly trained, and instances of seclusion and restraint are conducted in compliance with all chapter 103 rules and regulations.
- Formally evaluate Perry Elementary School staff including walk through observations and formal evaluation cycles, in collaboration with Elementary Principal and Associate Principal as outlined in the PEA and Support Staff Handbooks.
- Support Professional School Counselors with the development and implementation of Section 504 Plans
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in teaching and school administration, 3 years preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or equivalent.
- Valid Administrative License with Evaluator Approval as issued by the BOEE.
- Knowledge of current research in educational programs and effective schools, with awareness of current legal issues in special education.
- Ability to lead and supervise educational personnel and programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to relate and work effectively with diverse audiences.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and responsibilities independently.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the PCSD Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Staff.
