Finishing Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Finishing Supervisor oversees the finishing department in an optical lab, ensuring efficient production of high-quality eyewear. This role involves managing workflow, supervising staff, maintaining quality control, and optimizing processes to meet production targets and customer expectations. An ABO (American Board of Opticianry) certification is required to ensure technical expertise and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management
- Oversee all finishing processes, including first inspection, edging, mounting, tinting, and final inspection.
- Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate workflow to minimize bottlenecks and maximize throughput.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance as needed to prevent downtime.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Enforce quality control procedures to ensure lenses meet company, ANSI, and industry standards.
- Conduct final inspections to verify accuracy in edging, mounting, and coatings.
- Identify defects, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, train, and mentor finishing department employees.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Provide ongoing training on best practices, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to streamline operations and reduce waste.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve productivity.
- Work closely with other departments (surfacing, coating, customer service) to ensure seamless operations.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and recommend technology upgrades when necessary.
Qualifications & Skills:
- ABO (American Board of Opticianry) Certification – Required.
- 3 years of experience in an optical lab finishing department, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of optical finishing processes, equipment, and materials.
- Leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Basic computer skills for tracking production and quality data.
- Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations related to optical manufacturing.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Manual dexterity for handling delicate optical components.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.
