Job Summary :

The Quality Control Bulk Technician is primarily responsible for ensuring manufactured bulk product complies with defined standards and specifications. They are responsible for identity and specification conformance testing, accurate documentation, and timely release of approved material. This role provides quality support and direction to the bulk compounding team. They are expected to learn other quality positions to ensure adequate coverage across the quality department during absences which will include packing floor QC Tech coverage.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities :

  • Perform routine analysis and testing on compounded bulk product including but not limited to organoleptic testing (appearance, texture, fragrance), pH, viscosity, and specific gravity.
  • Prepare microbial samples of bulk and submit and track results of samples.
  • Prepare, ship, and track customer approval samples.
  • Prepare Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each batch made and submit to customer for approval.
  • Release bulk product based on compliance to specifications, acceptable microbial results and customer batch approval.
  • Maintain results log for microbial, cannabidiol, and any other bulk testing results required.
  • Communicate directly with customers about status of batch approvals and resolve customer questions / complaints.
  • Perform systematic release in the inventory management system and apply physical release documentation to bulk containers.
  • Maintain the Rework and Adjustment Log as well as maintaining rework and adjustment documentation.
  • Maintain organization and filing of batch records and bulk testing worksheets. Review batch records to ensure Good Documentation Practices are followed.
  • Maintain Bulk standard samples.
  • Maintain retain storage room following established archive process.
  • Communicate with Research and Development chemists on acceptability of batches, batches requiring rework or adjustments, and specification development.
  • Maintain product specifications and bulk testing worksheets.
  • Support the review, approval, and release of incoming raw materials or recertification of existing raw material inventory by reviewing CoA test results and perform testing where necessary.
  • Assist in training quality and manufacturing staff on GMPs, GDPs, and bulk product testing.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities :

  • Cross-functionally support QC Finished Goods Inspection and Packing QC Tech processes as necessary.
  • Cross-functionally support QC Tech- Incoming Components position and Raw Material Inspection position as necessary.
  • Support Water System testing as necessary.
  • Other duties as required by job and business needs or as assigned.

    Knowledge & Skills :

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of cGMPs and cosmetic / personal care product manufacturing
  • Experience performing analytical tests including pH, viscosity, and specific gravity
  • Skill and ability to determine minor differences in color, texture, and fragrance
  • Experience operating FTIR equipment for analytical analysis of products and ingredients
  • Must have a high attention to detail and very good organization skills
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate collaboratively and professionally cross functionally (between Quality, Research & Development, and Manufacturing)
  • Able to work independently at high level of accuracy and adhere to internal and external timelines
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including knowledge of Good Documentation Practices
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Proficient in math (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, converting between units of measure)

  • Education / Experience :

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Physical or Natural sciences is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience reviewing, analyzing and testing products for compliance to standards and specifications.
  • Previous experience working in a cosmetic, personal care, or pharmaceutical analytical laboratory or as a compounding technician is very strongly preferred. Comparable experience within a food manufacturer may also be acceptable.
  • Knowledge of Chemistry or experience working in an Analytical Chemistry lab is desirable.
  • Physical Demands

  • Cannot be color blind. Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to detect and discern minor differences in colors.
  • Must have the ability to reasonably compare odors against a standard.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend.
  • Frequently use hands to keyboard or type or handle materials.
  • Regularly reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly use hands to finger, feel, handle materials, and to keyboard.
  • Occasionally / Frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and, infrequently, up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally / Frequently required to climb or balance.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification include those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Requires composure and ability to prioritize and handle many urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are disclosing the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado. Compensation for similar positions located outside of Colorado may differ.

    If performed in Colorado, the pay this position is $21.50 per hour. This payrate may vary based on relevant factors including but not limited to experience, education, performance, scope of responsibilities, location and other considerations permitted by law.
