Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Job Summary

Are you a strategic leader with deep expertise in digital communications and a passion for driving transformative change? As the Senior Director of Portfolio Management for Global Communications, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of internal and external digital strategy and communications excellence across all portfolios! You will drive the execution of innovative digital strategies, technologies and tools that enhance our global digital communications processes and output to reach customers externally and our employees internally.

In this fast-paced, high-impact role, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor on best practices for leveraging digital tools and technologies for digital spokespeople and content creators, while also driving platform optimization for internal and external communications activities. You will lead the global integration of new technologies, tools, and content, ensuring all are effectively scaled across geographies, functions, and audiences to accelerate the delivery of communications content. You will also coordinate projects that enhance the operations of global communications.

Additionally, you will lead a team responsible for the strategic development and execution of communications-sponsored content and digital advertising initiatives. You will drive innovation and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure that this digital content is impactful, engaging, and aligned with organizational priorities.

To ensure efficiency, global integration, and strategic execution of all communications initiatives, you will coordinate a team of project managers responsible for supporting all assigned portfolios within Global Communications.

Finally, as the main point of contact for agency collaboration, you will serve as the clearinghouse for all agencies of record, guiding paid, organic, and internal channel activities. You’ll proactively identify risks associated with projects and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes. Staying ahead of industry trends, you’ll integrate innovative insights and share your knowledge to foster improvement and help shape the future of our digital communications landscape.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, content marketing or a related field
  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • 10 years of experience in communications, content marketing or digital media
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role: leading a team and/or vendors
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.


Preferred Skills And Capabilities

  • Strong writing and editing skills: Ability to craft clear, engaging and persuasive content for various platforms
  • Digital strategy advisory: Advise leadership on internal and external digital communications strategies for corporate and executive content, ensuring coordination with organizational priorities and business objectives.
  • Sponsored content and digital advertising: Lead the strategic development and execution of sponsored content and digital advertising initiatives, ensuring they support with corporate objectives, enhance brand visibility, and engage target audiences effectively.
  • Project management oversight: Lead all project management capabilities, processes and technologies for global communications portfolios, including executive, science, brand, employee experience and medicines; Ensure projects are completed on-time, within budget, and parallel with strategic objectives
  • Global integration and scaling: Lead the global integration and scaling of technologies and processes across the Global Communications function; Ensure that digital solutions are effectively implemented across regions and business areas, optimizing workflows and content creation
  • Agency collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact and clearinghouse for all agencies of record, supervising their support of paid, organic and internal channel activities
  • Team leadership and development: Lead, mentor and develop a team of digital communications experts, project managers and publishing specialists, fostering an environment of collaboration and improvement
  • Internal and external digital tools and technology implementation: Evaluate and implement those that improve communications workflows, enhance user experience, and support publishing and project management functions
  • Digital technology proficiency: Deep understanding of external and internal digital best practices, technologies and strategies for audience engagement and growth
  • Content marketing knowledge: Understanding of content marketing principles, including SEO and audience targeting, to drive strategic insights for digital channel implementation
  • Performance measurement: Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of internal and external digital capabilities and project outcomes, driving data-driven decisions
  • Budget management: Manage budgets for projects and initiatives, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and financial accountability
  • Project management oversight: Oversee project management capability, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budgets
  • Risk management: Identify potential risks associated with digital initiatives and project execution, develop strategies to mitigate them, and ensure successful outcomes
  • Innovation and trend analysis: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating and educating on relevant insights for improvement and innovation
  • Research and analysis: Ability to analyze market trends, audience preferences and measure content performance and adjust strategies appropriately and timely
  • Relationship-building: Experience in networking and collaborating with stakeholders and influencers
  • Adaptability: Remain current on industry content trends and evolving brand strategies and adjust outcomes accordingly
  • Vendor management: Lead and direct contracted content resources and agency partners


Additional Preferences

  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Knowledge of various digital marketing and PR tactics
  • Knowledge of social media and digital advertising trends, as well as proficiency in the latest online communication tools
  • Knowledge of internal digital platforms and trends for reaching employees
  • Familiarity with content creation platforms, project management software (e.g. Workfront), and analytics tools
  • Experience working in a complex corporate environment
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry
