We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our growing team in Charleston, SC. Our projects range from state-of-the-art hospital developments to secure federal infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on quality, precision, and client satisfaction.
Position Overview:
The Construction Estimator will lead the preparation of accurate and timely estimates for healthcare and federal government construction projects. This role involves detailed cost analysis, bid preparation, and collaboration with project stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare and federal projects, proven accounting expertise, and proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret project specifications, blueprints, and drawings to develop accurate cost estimates for healthcare and federal government construction projects.
- Prepare and present detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and risk assessments to ensure project feasibility and profitability.
- Manage pre-construction activities, including bid proposals, timelines, and subcontractor negotiations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop comprehensive project plans and budgets.
- Utilize accounting principles to manage project financial data, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals.
- Develop and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project.
- Review subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing to ensure cost efficiency.
- Identify and address cost discrepancies, providing solutions to mitigate project risks.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, labor rates, and material costs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8 years of experience in construction estimating, specifically in hospital/healthcare and federal government projects.
- Strong understanding of construction project financials, accounting principles, and cost control.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and subcontractor management.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of federal construction regulations and healthcare project requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Timberline, or similar platforms).
- Strong negotiation skills for subcontractor pricing and proposals.
- Understanding of government contracting processes (RFPs, RFQs, and bids).
- Certification in construction estimating (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)) is a plus.
