Job Description
Elitecare Medical Staffing INC are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Preop/PACU ( Pre-Operative and Post-anesthesia care units in a hospital ).The ideal candidate will have strong critical care skills and be adaptable to various patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the Preop and PACU settings, ensuring their safety and comfort during recovery.
- Manage a patient ratio of 1:1 for Preop admissions and up to 5 for discharges; PACU ratios are typically 1:2, with a 1:1 ratio for patients requiring airway support.
- Monitor patients through Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery, effectively assessing their vital signs and readiness for discharge.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to coordinate care for common cases, including orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), hernias, lap chole, OB/GYN procedures, urology, and ENT cases.
- Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS to ensure preparedness for any emergency situations.
- Utilize Meditech EMR for accurate documentation and patient care management.
- In the absence of a house supervisor, serve as the charge nurse for both PACU and outpatient areas, typically without a patient assignment.
- Read cardiac strips and respond appropriately to any arrhythmias or changes in patient condition.
- Current RN licensure and relevant certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
- A well-rounded nursing background with strong knowledge of cardiac rhythms and critical care skills.
- Experience in a recovery or critical care environment is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
- The Preop unit has 10 beds, while the PACU has 4 beds.
- No ventilated patients are treated in PACU; those requiring ventilation are transferred directly to ICU.
- There are currently no nurse aides on this unit, but this may change in the future.
