Job Summary:
The Development Officer will be responsible for leading ERC’s development of year-round philanthropic relationships, raising revenue to support ERC’s programs, and managing and marketing ERC’s brand in the local community. As a member of the ERC team, you will report to the Executive Director and work with members of the board of directors and staff to develop and execute a fundraising program. A Bachelor’s degree and five to seven years of fundraising and/or development experience are required.
Essential Job Functions include:
- Establish strategies and tactics to achieve and exceed revenue targets
- Manage personal portfolio of high priority corporate and major gift prospects
- Apply best practices and innovative ideas to optimize special events fundraising
- Build diversified revenue streams including special events, corporate partnerships, foundations, retail campaigns, individual/major gifts and clubs and organizations funding
- Identify and steward community foundations and grants to fund the work of the ERC
- Develop a thorough understanding of organizational, community and key stakeholder priorities, needs and barriers to identify appropriate partners and form alliances that significantly accelerate the development of strategic partnerships that facilitate the distribution and implementation of ERC’s education and programs into the NWA community
- Position the Association as the key voice and expert on adults with intellectual disabilities in at the state and local level as well as with heads of important civic organizations and faith leaders
- Identify, engage and integrate community partners to deliver ERC’s mission
- Develop effective and ongoing relationships with media
- Generate trust among donors and potential donors by being authentically interested in their needs and interests, and by creating a positive image through enthusiastic interaction via face-to-face meetings, phone, email, regular mail and on social media.
- Assess donor capacity and cultivate accordingly, including any lapsed donors.
- Manage and, create marketing and promotional activities.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive year- round communications plan to keep supporters informed and engaged.
- Enable and support effective volunteer leadership recruitment, stewardship and engagement
- Work cross-functionally with all departments to drive and generate revenue, analyze prospective individual donors, and recommend solicitation strategies.
- Assist in developing annual department work plan and corresponding budget; ensures alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Record donor information through a CRM program.

Work Environment:
- The work environment is consistent with a typical office setting
- Standard office setting with the job requiring long periods of sitting in front of a computer.
- Frequent out of office meetings with donors.
- May occasionally experience moderate noise levels.
Physical Demands: This role requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitious computer and phone computer, and talking to people. Lifting requirements of up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
Travel: At least 40% local NWA travel.
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum level of education required – Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or similar field.
- Minimum years of experience required – Minimum five to seven years of fundraising or sales experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Experience with CRM software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Preferred level of education required – Master’s Degree
- Preferred years of experience required – 7 years of fundraising or sales experience.
- Preferred experience in nonprofit organizations.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: additional requirements such as certifications, industry-specific experience and experience working with certain equipment, licensure requirements, etc.).
- Must pass an extensive background check.
- Must be in compliance with drug testing requirements.
- Valid transportation required.
