BASIC FUNCTION:
The Chief Technology Officer reports directly to the Superintendent and is a key member of the
district leadership team. The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for overseeing the district s
technology strategy and operations, ensuring the effective and secure use of technology to support
educational and administrative goals. As a strategic and operational leader, a member of the
superintendent s cabinet, the Chief Technology Officer leads four main teams: Enterprise Systems,
IT Support Services, Programming and Application Support, and Information Security. The Chief
Technology Officer ensures the delivery of exceptional technical support services, fosters a culture
of excellence and continuous improvement, and aligns technology initiatives with the district s
goals. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, collaboration with various
stakeholders, and overseeing state and federal reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement the district s technology strategy in alignment with educational and
administrative objectives.
Oversee the management and operation of the Technology Services Department, develop and
prepare the annual preliminary budget for the Department; analyze and review budgetary and
financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
Collaborate with district leadership to integrate technology into the educational curriculum and
administrative processes, including the adoption and evaluation of new technologies to enhance
educational outcomes and operational efficiency; ensure the security and integrity of the district s
information systems and data.
Monitor and report on the performance of technology initiatives and systems.
Plan, organize, control and direct District technology services and activities; develop, implement
and maintain technology systems and services; assure appropriate equipment, materials, personnel
and resources are available to meet District technology needs; assure technology activities are
performed in compliance with applicable laws, codes and regulations.
Coordinate, develop and maintain a variety of software and information systems and applications
for various departments; develop and maintain technological policies and procedures; develop,
maintain and coordinate the installation of Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network
(WAN) and telephone systems to assure smooth and efficient information flow within the District.
Train and supervise the performance of assigned personnel; interview and select employees and
recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; develop training
programs for technology personnel.
Serve as a technical resource and coordinate technical support for District personnel; respond to
inquiries and provide information; communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside
organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange
information.Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Superintendent s Cabinet regarding
technology functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and
programs to assure an economical, safe and efficient work environment; advise the Associate
Superintendent of unusual trends or problems and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Plan, organize and implement long and short-term technology plans and activities designed to
enhance assigned programs and services.
Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and
files related to assigned activities and personnel.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and district policies related to technology use
and data security.
Oversee state and federal reporting requirements to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Required:
Minimum of 7 years of experience in technology leadership roles, preferably in a large school
district or organization.
Proven experience in managing technology teams and projects.
Strong understanding of information security principles and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid CA Driver s license.
Preferred:
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Project Management
Professional (PMP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), etc.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver's license.
