Lead Controls Engineer – Renewable Energy | Hybrid | Travel Up to 25%
Are you ready to lead innovative control systems for cutting-edge renewable energy projects? We’re looking for a Lead Controls Engineer with a passion for sustainability and a proven track record in automation, system design, and team leadership. This is a high-impact role where you’ll take ownership of control systems for biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) projects across North America.
As a senior technical leader, you’ll design and integrate industrial automation systems, oversee field commissioning, and guide a high-performing team of engineers. This role offers strong career growth potential and the opportunity to shape the future of clean energy technology.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and mentor the controls engineering team across multiple projects
- Design and implement PLC/SCADA-based control systems for industrial processes
- Review and develop PFDs, P&IDs, I/O lists, UL panel drawings, and control narratives
- Specify and integrate instrumentation and control hardware for automation systems
- Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization
- Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, and RFI responses
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and operations to ensure project success
- Ensure compliance with ISA, NFPA, UL, and other relevant industry standards
What You Bring
- 8 years of experience in control engineering within RNG, biogas, power, chemical, or industrial automation sectors
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell Studio 5000, GE, AutomationDirect)
- Hands-on experience with SCADA systems, Modbus, HART, and industrial networking
- Leadership experience and a track record of mentoring junior engineers
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for site work and commissioning
Nice to Have
- Experience with gas analysis, UL panel design, and maintenance planning
- Familiarity with RCA methodologies and high-performance KPIs
- Professional certifications such as EIT, PMP, or related credentials
