Job Purpose and Objectives:
Records all activities and requests made by the inmate while ensuring inmates are treated in a humane manner and are granted their constitutional rights.
Essential Functions:
- Books and processes inmates
- Records all activities of inmates, including phone calls and medical needs
- Performs hourly checks on inmates
- Verifies warrants as requested
- Dispenses commissary needs
- Restrain non-compliant inmates
- Meets the public at the law enforcement center and supervises visiting hours
- Assists with preparation and serving of meals to inmates
- Serves as transportation and escorts inmates to scheduled appointments
- Monitors medical status of prisoners
- Dispenses medication and notifies physician of any medical needs
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of jail
- Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and county ordinances
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
- Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
- Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification in first aid treatment and CPR required.
- Possess a valid Kansas driver's license.
- This is an entry-level position and prior experience is not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting solvents required for sanitation.
- Skilled in interpersonal communication.
- Ability to deal with inmate problems on a daily basis.
- Ability to operate an intoxilyzer, TV camera and video equipment, kitchen equipment, and other related equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is primarily very heavy and may require the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Also requires the ability to balance, climb, crawl, crouch, hear, reach, talk, see, walk and make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive reasoning.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in adverse conditions which arise when working with inmates
This position works 8 hour shifts with shift (and days off) rotations every 2 months. 5 work days 2 days off each week.
