SUMMARY: This position operates under the general direction of the Deputy Director, while working closely with the JJAEP Administrator and Detention Administrator, to ensure the educational services being provided within the JJAEP and Detention setting, maintain compliance with all state-mandated requirements and regulations of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), the Texas Family Code (TFC), the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Administrative Code (TAC); as well as following any additional state and or federal requirements related to Special Education services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This job description intends to identify an overall summary of essential duties; however, there may be additional job-related tasks other than those specifically identified, which may be required to complete the job successfully. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following: 1. Assist with reporting of statistical and programmatic data to the appropriate entities;2. Maintain a working knowledge of the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS);3. Maintain familiarity and working knowledge of the Juvenile Case Management System (JCMS) and data entry for each student;4. Provide training and support to campuses and to business and human resources staff responsible for processing PEIMS data;5. Receive PEIMS-related information from the Educational Service Center (ESC) and Texas Education Agency (TEA), and disseminate to other staff promptly, including updates to PEIMS Data Standards;6. Maintain professional interactions with student counselors, juvenile probation officers, mental health personnel, school agencies, and state officials;7. Attend all School District Expulsion Hearings;8. Maintain a thorough knowledge of Special Education requirements;9. Properly review all Admissions, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) documents, including Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and Behavioral Improvement Plan (BIP), and implement proper accommodations;10. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the educational platform utilized in JJAEP and Detention;11. Meet with school officials and community resources as needed;12. Assist youth entering/exiting JJAEP and or Detention in transitioning to the home school district;13. Monitor overall compliance with educational requirements for JJAEP and or Detention;14. Assist with conducting intakes and orientation of youth entering JJAEP;15. Strong interpersonal and communication skills;16. Maintain CPR & First Aid Certification;17. Maintain Handle with Care Certification;18. Adhere to a strict level of confidentiality and ethics;19. Work independently and efficiently;20. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail;21. Expertise in Word Processing, Excel Spreadsheets and Database Management;22. Maintain required Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours to renew teaching certification;23. Perform additional duties as assigned;24. Maintain regular attendance and professionalism at all times; EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSES: • Be at least 21 years of age• Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License• Meet criminal history employment guidelines as provided by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department• Shall, at a minimum, hold a four-year degree from an accredited University• Maintain required Teacher Certification• Proficient in laws and standards relating to education provided in the JJAEP and Juvenile Detention setting SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
