The Position:
Our Summer Law Clerks will start working on the Core Services group initially, then rotate into working with one of our Legal Practice Groups to provide an opportunity to network with a variety of Ellis Porter employees as well as get practical experience working on Immigration applications.
The Core Services team where our Clerks will start their Summer is part of the Ellis Porter Innovation group and a driver in the modernization of our business model. The Core Services team is an onsite shared services group focused on managing the business processes related to our service delivery to its clients. This group focuses on technology enablement and business process improvement initiatives that seek to transform the delivery of legal services to our clients and enhance our employee experience. The duties of a Law Clerk may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Application Preparation & Filing Support
- Assist attorneys in compiling, printing, copying, and scanning immigration applications.
- Support application review and records management function designed to ensure all applications are reviewed and retained in firm systems prior to filing.
Data Services Support
- Scan and organize case-related government correspondence into EP systems.
- Support data maintenance function by entering information into EP’s systems and verify accuracy of databases.
- Support data services function in improving insights and visualizations derived from firmwide data systems.
Legal Knowledge Management Support
- Document and conduct periodic review of firm standard operating procedures.
- Improve intranet design to make it easier to learn and share best practices.
- Assist in developing firm resources to support training initiatives.
Technology Enablement & Legal Process Design Support
- Assist in implementation and adoption of technologies to improve internal and external service delivery.
- Shadow EP Attorneys and Case Managers to learn and document internal legal processes to identify opportunities for process improvements in a rapidly growing firm.
After your rotation through Core Services to gain a foundation of Ellis Porter’s business process, each Summer Law Clerk would be assigned to one of our Practice Groups to work with their Attorneys and Case Managers on Client cases for the remainder of the summer.
