The role of the House Supervisor is to provide appropriate leadership to the night shift nursing staff in support and promotion of Ellsworth County Medical Centers mission, vision, and values. This role is responsible for all patients in the hospital and emergency room. This position also supports the Executive Director of Nursing and Nurse Manager in establishing specific goals, determining work procedures, expediting workflow, and communicating with and supervising appropriate personnel.
Schedule: 36hrs/week, every other weekend
Salary: $29- $44/ hr.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental, infection control standards and mission, vision, and values of Ellsworth County Medical Center.
2. In coordination with the Nursing Leadership Team, promotes departmental policies and procedures, strategic objectives, quality improvement goals, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
3. Provides direct care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department and the Outpatient care area when an ER Nurse is not available, or volume requires additional nursing personnel.
4. Manages licensed and non-licensed personnel on the floor, assisting as necessary.
5. Performs various duties, maintaining the highest level of service as follows:
a. Assesses patients and analyzes patient data to develop appropriate interventions; records signs of change in condition; informs the provider of changes in assessment when appropriate.
b. Administers medications and treatments to patients; monitors administration of intravenous fluids; places orders for medication in the electronic health record.
c. Assesses patients on admission to develop interim care plan and further assesses in depth to contribute to the complete care plan. Updates care plans as warranted and required.
d. Coordinates the admission of patients with the assignment of rooms and licensed personnel.
e. Responds to emergent situations; assesses the condition of the patient; notifies the provider and facilitates treatment or transfer.
f. Communicates pertinent information with patients and their families.
g. Ensures patients are aware of the services available to them; encourages patients to participate in activity programs.
h. Coordinates patient assignments based upon patient acuity and available licensed personnel.
i. Ensures daily workflow allows for staff to take proper breaks and meals.
j. Effectively communicates status of patients to incoming personnel according to established procedures; communicates with providers; transcribes, clarifies, and implements providers orders.
6. Maintains patient record, ensuring detailed and timely documentation, including patient compliance and progress, understanding the correlation between accurate and complete documentation and its impact on reimbursement and federal regulations.
7. Reports issues and concerns in performance of nursing staff to the Executive Director of Nursing and/or Nurse Manager; patient related incidents will be reported through QDC.
8. Conducts nightly rounds with patients and staff members with direct oversight of patient care activities.
9. Ensures that C.N.A.s, Unit Secretaries and all supervised personnel adhere to standard job requirements.
10. Collaborates with all departments and medical providers to achieve optimal patient care across the continuum.
11. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled department and committee meetings as assigned.
12. Assists in survey compliance, quality assurance and staff development duties, as assigned. Notifies the Executive Director of Nursing of identified nursing personnel learning needs.
13. Directs staff response to emergencies, such as severe weather, fire, or bomb threats according to policies.
14. Attends continuing education courses related to leadership, emergency room nursing and remains up to date in clinical practice.
15. Assists in developing and coordinating the orientation process for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel.
Education:
- Completed degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience in acute care nursing required.
Demonstrated leadership and management experience preferred.
Skills:
- Must have advanced computer and Microsoft program skills, electronic medical record experience, and the ability to operate necessary nursing equipment properly and effectively.
- Independent judgment, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills required.
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills.
Certifications/ Registrations:
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
- ACLS and PALS current or within 90 days of hire.
- TNCC current or within 6 months of hire.
