What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Elm Electrical, Inc.?
The Accounting Manager will oversee and manage all accounting functions within the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry regulations and company policies. This role will involve managing financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis specific to construction projects. Will work with several layers in the construction industry and must have a strong understanding of project-based accounting.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in conjunction with the Controller.
Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to senior management.
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and financial forecasts.
- Project Cost Management:
Work with Project Managers to understand how they track and manage construction project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.
Ensure accurate allocation of costs and timely billing to clients.
Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
Develop and manage annual budgets for various projects and departments.
Prepare financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
Collaborate with project managers to ensure budget adherence and cost efficiency.
- Compliance and Internal Controls:
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Help support external audits and tax filings.
- Team Management:
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed (A/R, A/P, billing, etc.).
Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate professional development opportunities.
Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Financial Systems and Procedures:
Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of accounting systems and software.
Streamline and improve accounting processes and procedures.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable.
- Communication and Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and other stakeholders to ensure financial alignment.
Communicate financial performance and issues to senior management.
Assist in the development of financial strategies and business plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA or CMA designation preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Strong knowledge of accounting practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job costing and contract management a plus
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
- Standard office environment
- Based in Westfield, travel to other sites as required
