What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Principal for Instruction position at Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205?
- In coordination with the District’s Learning & Teaching team, oversees all 9-12 academic programming and leads building-wide continuous improvement efforts in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Evaluates tier 1, 2, and 3 programming and strategically leads a multi year plan for continuous improvement to elevation instructional programming and practices to best meet the needs of all students.
- In collaboration with building and district leaders, evaluates data to set informed and ambitious school improvement goals in alignment with the district priorities and reviews and monitors impact of schoolwide and division-based professional learning plans.
- Oversees, strategically develops, and evaluates Instructional Coaches and Division Chairs, including observations & feedback, facilitation of Division Chair meetings, and execution of an aligned professional learning plan for Instructional Coaches and Division Chairs based on department needs and student outcomes.
- In coordination with school and district leadership, leads opportunities for students to be celebrated for academic growth and excellence, including the facilitation of family communication and engagement at events including Rising Freshmen Academic Night, Family Open House, and family-teacher conferences.
- In collaboration with district and school leaders, designs, plans, and implements an aligned professional learning plan and approves any external professional development requests to ensure alignment to school and district priorities.
- In collaboration with the Division Chairs and York Student Services, oversees the creation of the Master Schedule and coordinates the course approval process with any necessary revisions to the Student Coursebook.
- Maintains current knowledge of curriculum, instructional pedagogy, adult learning, and standards-aligned and research-based practices across all content areas.
- In collaboration with the Principal and other building leaders, monitors and tracks trends in student performance across all academic areas, including specialized instruction and English Language Learning, to ensure school performance toward meeting rigorous goals.
- In collaboration with Middle School Principals and others, designs, plans, and implements a comprehensive system for middle school articulation.
- In collaboration with building & district leaders, coordinates all Human Resources functions for the building, including recruiting educators, ensuring a robust interview process to hire and retain high quality educators.
- Assists in supporting, communicating, implementing, and evaluating school and district initiatives.
- Supports team to ensure districtwide and state-required assessments are implemented at York including, but not limited to PSAT, Pre-ACT, and ACT.
- Actively participates and leads when needed regular meetings with the building principal, senior leadership team, building leadership team, and district leadership team.
- Serves as a resource and assures effective development and operation of committees and the active participation of program staff.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Illinois Professional Educator License registered in DuPage County and endorsed as a General Administrator or Principal
- Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation Teacher Evaluation Modules
- Past experience assistant principal or division chair
- Experience with leading school communities
- Equivalent combination of education and experience

Summary
Under general supervision from the building principal and district leaders, the Assistant Principal for Instruction supports the building principal with the development, organization, administration, supervision, and evaluation of a curricular program that enables all students to learn and grow. The Assistant Principal is an instructional leader who accepts responsibility for the achievement of ambitious school improvement goals and works collaboratively with other building and district leaders in support of the student journey of excellence.
