    Elmhurst Community Unit School District seeks a highly qualified student services professional to work with our teams at York Community High School and Bridges Transition Center.

    Summary

    Under general supervision from the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and other members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, the Directors of Student Services oversee the implementation of all special education and student services programming for an assigned group of schools. The Directors support the building administrators with the development, organization, administration, supervision and evaluation of student support programs including the District’s special education, 504, and MTSS programming. The Directors take the lead in coordinating all student services functions of the District in compliance with federal and state regulations, and district/building policies and procedures.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Coordinates all special education related functions for designated schools:

      • Supports building leaders to oversee the implementation of special education services; ensure guidelines, procedures, and instruction are in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and Board Policy and align with the District’s Strategic Plan.
      • In collaboration with Student Services and Learning and Teaching, provides an aligned professional learning plan in support of strategic plan goals and priorities.
      • Supports building personnel with curriculum adaptation, intervention selection and implementation to ensure students with disabilities have appropriate supports and services.
      • Meets regularly with building leaders to help guide, coach, and problem-solve regarding special education and student services issues.
      • Regularly collaborates with building leaders and personnel to coordinate, and monitor student placements and transitions to and from outplacements.
      • When necessary and appropriate, serves as LEA for IEP and 504 meetings including for students who are placed outside of the District, including those placed in public and private therapeutic, and residential settings.
      • Collaborates with the Schools Association for Special Education of Dupage (SASED) on contract services for D205 students.
      • Develops and monitors a comprehensive system of transition programming for students with disabilities.
      • In collaboration with the District’s Director of Research and Assessment, oversees the implementation of special education assessments, including Dynamic Learning Map (DLM-AA).
      • Oversees transportation for students who require special transportation.
      • Collaborates with private and parochial schools to complete evaluations for students in need of evaluations.
    • In collaboration with the District’s Learning and Teaching team, coordinates all student services functions for designated schools:

      • Leads work with District and building leaders to design, plan, and implement all aspects of social and emotional learning for the building or set of buildings including ensuring that all students have access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum and tiered interventions.
      • In collaboration with building and district leaders, supports the implementation of college and career readiness pathways in alignment with the American School Counselors Association and other similar frameworks.
      • Oversees, in collaboration with the Learning and Teaching team, develops an efficient tiered model of intervention and support at Tiers Two and Three in an MTSS Structure with a focus on English/Language Arts and Math.
      • Supports the use of data and evidence-based progress monitoring tools to ensure students who are at-risk for failure remain on track.
      • Supports the use of evidence-based approaches for strong student, classroom, and school-wide behavioral programming, including the use of inclusive or restorative practices in schools. Supports school staff and administrators with behavior intervention at the school, classroom, student levels.
      • Provides advice and support to building leaders on appropriate resolution to discipline related issues and student related reports as necessary.
    • Coordinates and supervises Extended School Year for the District including hiring and training of all staff in conjunction with Human Resources and other departments.
    • Ensures that students have smooth transitions between grade levels by designing, planning, and implementing a high quality program of support for students and their families with a focus on transitions from Early Childhood to Kindergarten, elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school.
    • Effectively communicates with all parents/guardians regarding the needs of students, and complies with established District communication protocols
    • Leads one or more major areas of the District’s student services program (i.e. Deans, Social Workers, School Counselors, School Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, etc.) including the development of an aligned professional learning plan.
    • Ensures the district has an appropriate continuum of services and that students are being placed in their least restrictive environment.
    • Oversees the implementation of parent events and programming in collaboration with special education parent groups.
    • Oversees and provides training on digital IEP and records storage programs.
    • Writes, manages and oversees appropriate grants including the IDEA Part B and IDEA Early Childhood Grants, ISBE Pre-School Grants, McKinney-Vento Homeless Grant and related expenditure reports.
    • In collaboration with other administrators, ensures that Title Grants and related expenditure reports are completed in a timely manner.
    • Oversees district use and data entry into iStar, the state’s special education student and staff approval and claims program.
    • Completes all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree in an special education or student services related field
    • Illinois Professional Educator License registered in DuPage County and endorsed as a General Administrator or Principal
    • Director of Special Education Endorsement required
    • Spanish bilingual is strongly preferred
    • Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation Teacher Evaluation Modules
    • Past experience as a special education teacher, related services provider, or administrator
    • Experience with leading school communities
    Salary Range & Benefits
    $120,000-130,000
