What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Specialist position at Elmwood Day Camp?
Elmwood Day Camp is seeking a Music Specialist for the summer of 2025 to join our camp family. The Music specialist at Elmwood is a part of an elite team of trained specialists who are each dedicated to the development of individual campers' skills in their specialized activity.
Responsibilities with campers include but are not limited to:
- Developing/Implementing an age appropriate Music curriculum
- Teaching the fundamentals of music to small groups of campers
- Promoting creativity and self-expression for campers
- Organizing supplies
- Giving direction to counselors to utilize them within activity
- Ensuring campers' safety and well-being
- Communicating with Performing Arts Director
- Being part of the camp community
The Music Specialist position is a full-time commitment of 8 weeks – Monday through Friday from 8:20 – 4:10, plus 2-3 days of mandatory staff orientation.
The right candidate:
- Is a college Student or College Grad
- Has previous experience working with children
Elmwood is a children’s day camp located in Westchester, NY, in a beautiful wooded residential section of White Plains. As a part of the Elmwood team, staff members are sure to enjoy the challenges, triumphs, responsibilities, rewards and fun that make up each day. We have a high energy and friendly staff. We offer optional staff rec events post camp to allow staff to get to know each other after the camp day.
Camp Dates: June 30– August 21 (closed Friday, July 4th)

When in session, campers and staff operate in cohorts to mitigate risk of community spread. Daily screenings for all staff and campers are required. The entire program is operated outdoors during June, July and August.
