Full time employees as gardeners are assigned season help (temporary employees). Gardeners must then be able to delegate and be mindful of the work that is being completed by the seasonal help. Communicating is essential to be able to complete the tasks at hand.
Special Skills or Experience
A significant portion of the work may be outside in the vicinity of noisy and hazardous grounds equipment. The interior work environment may be moderately noisy and involve shop maintenance tools, equipment and lubricants.

General Purpose of Position
Gardeners are assigned to areas (zones) that they are responsible for the health and appearance of the landscape. The four (4) primary responsibilities are pruning, floral\shrub beds, preventative maintenance, and landscape renovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A Gardner is responsible for maintaining the health and appearance of all the floral, shrub, and trees with in their assigned area. This shall include but not limited to chemical applications, weed removal, fertilization, watering, and pruning and removal of plant material. Install and maintain annual and perennial flower beds and develop a preventative maintenance program designed to control pests and diseases. Assist with the design, planning and coordinating of landscape improvements through the landscape manager and architect. Perform scheduled maintenance activities to include but not limited to the support of special events, projects, conferences, and other activities hosted on the campus of Elon University.
Education and Experience
Associates degree in Horticulture, landscape or turf management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s carrier. Following a conditional offer of employment, Elon conducts motor vehicle record checks on all job applicants who are required to drive a university vehicle as an essential function of their job. Thereafter, a random motor vehicle record check will be conducted annually. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a motor vehicle record check.
Salary : $34,800 - $44,100
